i'm borrowing a 00 beetle 1.8t for a while. I've had it since may and lately its developed a hesitation almost to the point where it'll stall at low rpms. it seems to do it more on acceleration from stops and going around corners. The check engine light is also on. I'm thinking fuel pump, but i dont have any experience with vw. chevy v-8's are what i know. any other suggestions?

00's were pretty immune to the coil pack problems later models caught.

And I don't see any reason to blame the fuel pump. Could simply be something up w/the MAF dealing w/the smaller amounts of air.

If it's got a CEL, you should probably get it scanned and that'll pretty much tell you the source of the problem. Or at least the primary symptom.
