Got this in my inbox; thought it would be of interest to VCDS users. Basically, VCDS will have a new OBD II plug in wireless module; that can be used on a pc or mobile device! Good news; hopefully, a "upgrade" in the future, will be a good deal for those of us, who already own the cable version. I will use my original setup for the time being; however, using VCDS on a my iphone wirelessly would be really cool! :) One limitation is the use of only 10 VIN #'s on the enthusiast version; kind of annoying, as the current VCDS has no limitation of this sort as it is. For marketing and revenue purposes; I can see why they made this decision but still annoying, as you are really not getting any perceptible benefit from the actual device from enthu to pro, aside from the ability to use on more then ten cars. I have always noticed; that the "pro" versions of the VCDS/cable setups that were offered in the past; really did not have any substantial additional benefit to them (came with a case, extra USB cable, adapter for earlier cars etc.); as there was no limitations with the entry level versions, now there is. If you have a opinion on this; I would appreciate your comments. While having a wireless setup would be very convenient; my old setup is working fine for now! Needless, to say; the wireless/mobile setup will be the future of their sales going forward.

Email from Ross Tech below:

The HEX-NET WiFi interface will be available for sale in the US on Monday, February 10, 2014. There will be two versions of the product:

* An Enthusiast Version, which will work with a maximum of 10 different cars (VINs), at the introductory price of $399: Ross-Tech Store: HEX-NET WiFi Interface - 10 VINs

* A Professional Version, which will work with an unlimited number of cars, at the introductory price of $499: Ross-Tech Store: HEX-NET WiFi Interface - unlimited VINs

Both versions have VCDS-Mobile on board, bringing dealer-level diagnostics to most modern mobile devices without the need to install any software on the device, and of course they will also work with VCDS running on a Windows PC.

This Beta release of the HEX-NET WiFi interface and VCDS-Mobile product will be sold only in the US and delivered only to US addresses. Sales will be limited to a small number of units per day initially.

Upgrades and sales to the rest of the world will not be offered at the start. At the conclusion of our Beta period, we will remove the daily limits, open sales to the rest of the world, and institute our upgrade program. We do not know when that will happen. The date will be determined by the success of the Beta program.
