Hey man happy holidays! From what I understand it can be done, but should be done properly. The proper way (besides stock) is to grab a set of BMW HID projectors and swap them over, THEN add the ballasts and bulbs. The 4 mounting points fit our lights as I remember. Our Halogen projectors will fit the HID kits but they scatter the light everywhere. I know because I tried it once, and it wasn't pretty. Plus you blind the CRAP out of oncoming drivers. You also could go the factory HID route but thats expensive, I think it was somewhere around the 800 and up range. Good luck buddy!
Ive heard of people getting kits like retro solutions and ddm tuning. Are they good

No. Get a proper HID projector. Just get this and call it a day. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=227
Whats involved with making that work??

You will need to add a relay harness as the VW wiring and switch cannot handle the current the HID require.

I have DDM Tuning cheapos in my OE projectors and they are not bad. The bulbs do vary so you could get questionable patterns or hot spots at times.

You will also want to disable the DRL, reconfigure for the high beams, or add another bulb like a city light as the HID will not be happy acting as a DRL, the bulbs will only last about a year as most HID bulbs are rated for around 2500 hours as I recall?
Ok ive heard something about the high beams means u cant do it in the highs is this rite?
