Will a bad thermostat that opens too soon, not leting engine get to proper running temp. cause a code to be set and a high idle (1500-1600 rpm) ????? When cold, it idles ok, as soon as the blue cold coolant light goes out idle goes up.

Doubtful the engine temp has anything to do with your high idle.

You may have a dirty throttle body or idle control valve?

If you have a scan tool that can monitor the engine temp, suggest you monitor the engine temp.

The blue light on my car turns off at around 134F and it is usually within the first 1 to 1.5 miles of driving from a cold start.

Thermostat will not likely be opening at 134F even with a weak spring. Usually a bad thermostat will cause the engine to run as cool as 170-175F. I have had soft thermostat and never any idle problems.

I am really thinking it has something to do with the temp since it idles up to 1300-1500 rpm as soon as the blue coolant light goes off.

throttle body

If you haven't cleaned your throttle body valve in a while that could be your problem. Just remove and clean with carb cleaner/spray from walmart, ie 2 bucks a can. then

Re-program your throttle body valve by disconnecting the battery and touching both cables together and hold for 10 seconds, reconnect cables to battery, turn the key to the on position without cranking or starting car, leave there for 20 seconds, move key back to off position. YA DONE MAN :goodjob:

Cleaned body last night, did battery cables as explained, ok for about 10 mins. then dreaded engine light and high idle again. It runs fine, just 1500-1600 idle and engine light.

You need to get the code checked to see what it is that is turning on the check engine light. Many auto parts stores will do it for free. Come back here with the code, though, and don't let them sell you anything first.

The Engine Light is your friend!!!

You need to get your codes read so you can get more clues as to what is causing your engine to idle too high.

Most auto parts stores will loan scan tools for use in the parking lot or Aamco Transmission will read codes for free and likely give you an estimate for repairs.

If you plan on keeping your car and doing your own work, you NEED to purchase some sort of scan tool.

Yes, get it scanned for sure. And it kind of sounds like you have a large vacuum leak after the mass airflow sensor.
