There are a number of sensors on these convertible top systems; it would be best to scan for trouble codes, that way you would know specifically which malfunctioning sensor is causing the problem?

Correct diagnoses requires a VW scan tool; i prefer vcds by ross tech $199 but a cheaper option the Ancel BD500 is $65 on Amazon.

I suggest you get a Volkswagen scan tool as soon as possible, scan for codes and tell what you find, we can go from there.
