How was this set up before?

Can it be duplicated in this new interface or was it a hack...

Styling Mod How-To...

Technical Mod How-To...

Car Audio How-To...

I think that is all of them.
We can start transfering them over to the new forums if we can get them set up.

Also - we can get started on FAQs for each section as well...

It ain't pretty but it's up.

I need to probably change both names and descriptions, and I may or maynot have the settings right for a moderated forum.

I'm not even sure that we'd want these forums 'open'.

Hrm.. this is kinda ugly how its setup...

How about a Category for How-To, and then the audio how-to, styling - how to etc all being placed under that?

Instead of how-to's all over the place in the different categories...

That would be the most appropriate solution. I was just trying to emulate the current look. Which we can't, since the subforums are actually turned OFF in that look, vs ON (such as looking into hobbies) in this look.

I figure we would allow moderators only to add content or move threads to the How-To forums.

I am trying to get in touch with the owner of BugMod.com and see if he will allow us to use some of the How-To's the generated. I think I hunted down 3 of the folks that did work on their site - one being Paul (our Paul) - to see if anyone has contact info for the owner dude. I think VWMike was also someone that was also a TechAdvisor.

If anyone knows any of these guys - it would be great to have their blessing for the How-To's they have already produced...I would think it wouldn't be too hard to get them to allow us to use the photos and write ups that we can still find in fragments out on the internet - we also have folks with pdf's that might be able to be transcribed. I'd feel better if we had their permission because the images have BugMod.com on them.

I dont know any of them, but I was kind enough to renew their domain name.... *TWICE*

Tried emailing them a few times about archiving their how-to's and what not.. but I never ever got a response.

Yeah - I figured if we could go through someone else they might have more info.
But then again, they probably only knew how to get ahold of them through BugMod.

What would you guys think to using their content, but giving them the credit along with the writers and photographers of the original articles? If they do show up and pitch a fit we could always ask for forgiveness...but we would be crediting them for all the effort - we are just hosting it.

I dunno, that's fine by me, but I wouldn't mind paraphrasing a how-to and taking new photos either. Directions are directions, I don't know why anyone would get upset over 'copyright posession'. Whatever Jeff feel's appropriate, I don't see any problem w/it if we say we got it from their site. Also, I'm pretty sure I have a hook-up that downloaded a copy of their how-to's images and text & all.

Oooh - buttons and stuff are getting nicer to look at!:p

I got a response from one of the guys I emailed yesterday.

Also - I did contact one of our members in Autsralia that said he had alot of them in PDF form to see if he would share them with us.

Here is the urls for the fragments of thier site...
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.bugmod.com
http://web.archive.org/web/*sr_201nr_10/http://bugmod.com/*

The last thread on the org on the topic....
http://forums.newbeetle.org/showthr...0158&perpage=15&highlight=bugmod&pagenumber=2

I've also started bookmarking good How-To's from the old site that never made it into the How-To sections, so we can transpose them and give credit to their original authors.

The how-to forums have been created, and are set so that admins/mods can post threads but everyone else can just view them.

I believe this is how it is setup on the .org

max # of chars have also been up'd to 15000 from 10000

If we need more... we can see about upping it again
