Howdy y'all!

Thrilled first time VW owner!

Just purchased a 2006 New Beetle 2.5 Hatchback Standard Transmission and I love it! Loved it enough I learned to drive standard so I could have it...

Hope it's ok to combine this question into my first post but here goes...

I have a major leak issue. I do have the sunroof, and I've read that the drains can cause this but I just had the 80,000 mile service at the dealership and part of that is suppose to include cleaning these.

So, here it is:

Passenger side floor board was soaked this morning (1 in of standing water) front and rear. Driver side totally dry. The truck also had leakage - the passenger side trunk liner was soaked and the foam piece that I assume is suppose to hold the spare tire in place was as well...the foam piece above this and under the hatchback seal was not.

A few things to note:

When I took the spare tire out I noticed there is a small hold with a plastic ridge over it in roughly the center of the trunk pan. Thinking I'm missing a rubber grommet? We had 4.5 inches of rain in less than 24 hours and I drove through some standing water this morning. Possibly kicked up into the trunk pan? I had standing water in the foam that hold the jack and tire change tools.

The plastic piece that site under the wipers and hood is loose on the passenger side. The water was clearly dripping, I could see it, from under the glove box but the papers in the glove box are dry.

Any thought/suggestions? I'd LOVE to fix this myself but I'm not sure I have the skill and I KNOW I really don't have the time.

Appreciate any help, from browsing here it looks like y'all are the most helpful around.

Welcome to the Org! I'm glad you found us! As for your questions. I'm not sure about the rubber grommet in the trunk, but as for your leak I wanted to ask you if you have a sunroof? It's a good possibility that the drainage tube for it is clogged. It's fairly common.
Welcome to the Org! Where in Texas are you from? There are lots of Orgers from that state. :)

I have a 2001 NB turbo and had to take my car into the dealership for the recall on the leaking..It was on my sunroof.. They get clogged and it wet my headliner and it stained it..:( Now it's getting loose and not staying glued to the roof.. They didn't bother to fix that little problem..
Thanks everyone!

I'm in West Texas, I do indeed have the sun roof.

I punched my VIN into the VW Recall page and nothing came up, they did email me that there were no outstanding recalls but did not specifically mention the sun roof, only safety related recalls.

Left my car with the dealership yesterday and they claimed after running the hose on it they can't find it coming in anywhere but found two missing grommets on the underside that they are going to replace.

Problem is I know it's an upper leak because it was parked and water was not high enough to enter anywhere but above. I'm thinking it's the sunroof...though I just had the 80,000 mile service so they should be clear.

Is there anyway to tell from looking at the drains if the recall service was performed?

Welcome to the org! Might glad to have ya aboard.
Hey, there's a BIG new beetle get together in Roswell, within the next month. It would be sweet if you could join all of the beetle UFO fun :)
Welcome to the Org. Dont forget to share some pics! We love pics! :D
West Texas?

Welcome to the Org from Jacksonville Fl!

Where in West Texas are you from? I went to Tech back in the early 80s. I will also be driving with a group of Beetles to Roswell NM via Chicago and RT.66 in the middle of June. Roswell is a blast and even more fun with 40+ Beetles roaming around the streets.

I am sure you would have a great time there. Check it out!

I'm in the heart of Raider land!

Is there a website/dates for the event in Roswell?

Would love to be able to make it if I'm not traveling for work, sounds like a blast.

Photos to came as soon as I'm able to get some, had to garage the beetle as I'm on the road and I have not yet been able to resolve the leak issue so it'll have to wait till I get back.
Howdy I'm down here in San Angelo. Roswell is the end of June, you can find info about it here --> Roswell2k - NewBeetle.org Forums
