I got this beetle it says on the engine cover 2.0L but under that someone wrote 1.9.

Is there a way to see on the engine itself what liter it is?
What do i look for to make sure?

Assuming no engine swap, your engine type is listed on a label posted on the side of your spare tire well in the trunk.

Is it gas or diesel? The diesel is the only 1.9L motor.

I am asking where on the engine is there serial numbers on the engine to find out that. I know from the vin number its supposed to be a 2.0l but on the engine cover someone wrote either 1.9 or 1.8.

I need to know if there is a way to tell from looking at the actual engine or a serial number or some other way other then the vin.

Oh ya sorry its a gas LOL forgot about that.

Either it says 1.9 or 1.8L

It must say 1.8... Like someone wrote that on the engine cover couldnt remeber if it said 1.9 or 1.8...

So we figured out at least its not a 1.9l then

The 1.8 is a turbo engine and looks very different under the cover.

Great forum.

My car does have a 2.0L.

My problem i was having was i thought the starter motor was gone. It just needed a Jumpstart.

Unknown to me you dont leave mp3 transmiter in cig lighter on over night transmitting I am guessing thats what drained my battery. So hopefully it starts in the morning.
