I am trying to fix the ignition key not turning issue on my daughter's 2006 Beetle 2.5 Convertible. It has Tiptronic transmission.
I have removed the lock cylinder housing and am able to start the car with a screwdriver turning the ignition switch. But I cannot shift out the parking position because there is a cable attached to the bottom of the housing. That cable seem to connect to the shift mechanism. I can feel the cable move a little when I tried to shift. When I turn the ignition switch to accessories position, the foot paddle indicator doesn't come on like it does on my Passat. Both have Tiptronic transmission and I think they have the same set up. So I think because the key is not turned, that cable is still locked and I can't shift.
I also need to remove the key tumbler from the housing but I can't turn the key to line up the hole to the dots on the lock to use the paper clip method to release the tumbler.
I searched other resources including YouTube but none of the other models like Jetta seem to have this cable.
Any suggestions on how to proceed from here?
