Recently I lost spare key for my 2002 VW Beetle. I had been using this key for the past few months as the original key had stopped allowing me to start the car.

Ive had someone come out to the car and try to program the original key back to the car but he has said that the immobiliser in the car is faulty so he would have to replace it. I dont see how this could be right as the spare key always worked perfectly.

Car anyone please help out? I know this is a fairly common problem with these cars.

Thanks

Who tried to program the key? Pretty much your only option is the dealer to get that matched.

It was a company that specialise in key replacement. He deals with a lot of immobiliser issues though. He was talking about taking out the dash and getting at the immobiliser chip

Yeah...he has no idea what he's doing with VW. Take the car to the dealer. No need to take the dash apart. Not sure what he thinks he's going to accomplish with that anyway. You need special software to match the immobilizer. But buying both will cost well over $300. Dealer price is much less to match it.
