Well, finally got my baby into the shop here in town. They told me the code was showing the 4th gear had an incorrect ratio. Can anyone tell me more about this?

Do you know the actual code number?
No, they didn't give me that, but I can ask for it when I go get the key.
Okay, got the code:
P0734 generic code VW 006522

Any suggestions?

I would say probably a solenoid problem. The VW autos tend to have issues with those and the valve bodies.
Is it an expensive fix? I can't get to the link you posted here at work. :(

A Single Mass Clutch can can cost around $300 to $600; depending on what kind of performance you want.

Since its throwing transmission codes, its going to be an automatic transmission.

Yeah, but I think we're actually talking about clutch packs, solenoids, wiring, etc. having to do with the auto.
It is a 6-speed automatic.

D2 showed his thread on his clutch replacement on an O2j, which is a manual.

While that may be true concerning the link that he posted (I didn't read it), the codes shown in his post (the attachment), the one on which you commented, 17118/P0734 is for an automatic, and the explanations posted are right out the Ross-Tech Wiki. So I think we agree on that.:) The 006552 shown by Kilroy is a wholly separate issue, too high friction on an intake cam.
So, does it need a new transmission? Does anyone know about how much they cost?
It doesn't necessarily need a whole new xmsn, in fact, it probably doesn't require a new one, but it will require further diagnosis. Could be as simple as a bad solenoid or faulty wire.
I'll call a VW dealer in OKC or Tulsa to diagnose it.
Thank you!
hey guys i having the same code for a 2006 beetle 2.5, i check with vcds and pull out the code P0734 and i noticed that the **** get a little jump and rev from 3 to 4 and up, do you think that a upgrade on the valve body will fix it?
Thanks for you help.
Update

:D i just change the valve body with one of the pacific coast transmission and the problem gones so far so im glad to read all the info in this site. Thanks guys:)
Took my baby to the VW dealer - they think it's the throttle body. Guess I'll wait to see what they say when the call today. Anxiously awaiting......
Yep, valve body.
They changed the oil & coolant, too so it should be good to go (just picked it up yesterday) but noooo, the check engine light came on this morning! Boo!:(
