2002 beetle 1.8 turbo AT with bad instrument cluster. When replacing is exact part number from old cluster needed?

I would think so. If you pull the cluster; there is a part number on the back of it. If you contact your local VW dealers parts dept; with your VIN # they can give you the latest part # for you particular car.

What is wrong with your speedo; are you sure it is broken? You might consider getting your original one repaired; that way you don't have to have the new one matched (that is more money; requires the use of VCDS or factory vw scan tool) and you maintain your original mileage.
