can anyone make these and how hard would it be to make. i figured i can go to a machine shop and have them make the henges for me for half the cost of a kit.

yes they can make you some money quickly if you can make them. they are really simple designs. i jsut dont have the tools or knowledge to make them. so plz does anyone think they can makes these kits. im sure other members would want them.
There was a long discussion on the "Old" org and I think some folks were trying to make it happen...but in the end they didn't think it was structurally possible.
I have since seen some hinges on Ebay that say they are for beetles, but not sure they just weren't universals.
As for fabbing....I don't recall many steel workers on the Org. Just a couple sheet metal people.
I have also looked into this both for lambo and suicide. The new style of lambo door hinges should allow for them to work on a NB but fitment is going to be pretty tight. The real issue is the mirror. Since it is attached to the door you run into an issue of it hitting the wheel wells when the door rotates up. This is also a problem for the suicide doors as everything would have to be rewired and I don't know how cool suicide doors would look with the mirror being attached to the end of the door. Autoloc makes a good suicide hinge, lambo hinge and gullwing hinge.
as you can see on the site the pt cruiser has a lambo kit. the door setup is similar to ours. so i think we can actually do this. i also notice that they came with gas struts. is this actually needed or only needed if you want to open them up by remotes?
Except that the way the did the PT destroys the lines of the fender....when that door is closed there is a vertical line that now bisects the fender...it's like they cut off the fender then molded it to the door. I think that would ruin the illusion when closed.
There was a thread about this on old nb.org where someone had really researched it. I believe they said that you simply cannot get to the area behind the hinge to effectively mount it without cutting huge holes in the body and fixing.
I wouldn't trust any ebay auction that doesn't actually show the product on the vehicle you are wanting it for....but in the same vane...I would def. pay that kind of cash for a mod like this because this is a pretty major modification to your car as well as the safety concerns...after all, we are talking about your doors here.
<< couple of cars that do not work without extensive fabrication are the VW Beetle and the Dodge Viper. They don’t have any under body fenders to mount on. >>
<< GT Factory provides a limited lifetime warranty and guarantees their vertical door conversion kit will fit your vehicle (except VW Beetle) or your money back! >>
However this companies claims they have a kit for NB:
Lambo door usually require the front fender comes off so you can mount the new hinge and shocks to hold the door up. On a beetle the top hinge is outside of the car (the mirror mount) and the front fender is different, you would need that small area where the turn signal is to come off, it doesn't.
if i was goin to do somethin like that i would go suiside not lambo just because if i were to get lambo i would hit my head evry time i got out of the car. also you got to realize how heavy our doors are
Lambo doors are awesome! I need to get a set for my DeLorean!! LOL, just kidding, but seriously, I think I posted this on the old forms about lambo doors on a New Beetle. The Lambo door conversions for standard door cars work by having the door pop out away from the body, then rotate up. This would be very difficult for the NB due to the fenders covering up the front of the door. We would be very limited in the movement we could get out of the door to even clear the door frame (Lambos and the such have an inset A frame for the door to clear). Now with extensive body mods you can make anything work, but off the shelf kits for our application would not be a good solution.
Suicide doors for me please those others would be a beotch to do and maintain. not to mention the room you need to open gull wing doors. theyre just not practical.
