I recently purchased a 1999 beetle. The right tail light, rear side light, and reverse light are not turning on. the reverse light has a cracked lens, but the bulb looks good, some rusted screws have prevented me from accessing the the plug for the bulb to heck it with a test light The right turn signal and brake light work but not the tail light and rear side light. Ive checked all the fuses and they appear to not be blown. I don't know where in the wiring the problem might have occurred, and have not been able to follow the wires back very far, because i don't know where they go. Any assistance with this would be much appreciated

The right side tail light, rear side marker and front side marker all share a common fuse, #22. If the right front side marker, which is a dual filament bulb with the front turn signal, works then the fuse and light switch are OK.

A common problem that people have with all the rear bulbs is corrosion in the sockets eating away the contacts. The bulb holders are available at the dealers. I've replaced both my rear side marker bulb holders now.

bulbs

another common problem is the bulb holder/sockets loose contact and so you need to remove the bulb, bend the little tabs up a little......not while the lights switch is in the ON position or you'll short it out and blow the fuse.:D
