I have a 2001 beetle sport ran fine yesterday. Today when I started the car I had a flashing check engine light. Checked codes here's what I got p0135 p0171 p0300 p0301 p0302 p0303 p0304 p0455 p0507 p1297. The car does run but is missing idling rough. Idle will go from low about 500 rpm to 2100 rpm back to about normal but still missing. Please help I'm new to beetles and it's my only car I have a scan tool that will do real time data if any other info is needed. I replaced timing belt and water pump about 8 months ago. Cleaned mass air about 2 months ago. Thanks this site is great!

I would start by clearing the codes and seeing what comes back. Then you can use this site to look up the codes: Ross-Tech Wiki

Second Smileybug. Then unfortunately tackle one issue at a time as they come back. Keep updating forum and asking questions.

I had a fault code, missfire in #3 on startup. After replacing all wiring, coil packs and plugs, I was still getting the code. Mechanic friend wanted to pull and replace motor. Not worth doing on this one. Know what fixed it? A $12 bottle of oil additive and a different oil weight. lol. Its been running fine for a year.

Good luck. It takes patience.

Most of the codes are triggered because of misfires.

There are two main possibilities for misfires,

Your plugs are not working properly (you unplug and look if they are in good or not)

Your coils are not working properly. You can understand if you try to do full throttle in low rpm.

First of all, change which one is not working then scan your engine again.

Lean condition is likely cause most of the misfire problems.

There is an intake air leak somewhere causing the problem.

Smoke test to find leaks, search YouTube for Scotty Smoke Test and do what Scotty does or build a tester from related video.

Just miss fire codes now

Down to just misfire codes p0300 301 thru 304. Checked plugs they look good. Idle is rough but when I rev it up it seems to smooth out. Seems to drive with normal power. Is it possible all the coil on plugs going bad at the same time. Is there a way to check the (cop). Thanks again
