Hello, everybody! I'm new to these forums, and I'm also new to New Beetles... and cars in general (I've never owned a car before, though I have driven plenty.) Consequently, I'd like to know of any tips/suggestions for my search for a New Beetle; I want to be sure to buy a good one that will last me a while.

Oh and if you know of any easy performance/electrical mods a first-timer like me could do, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks in advance,
Alvin.

The biggest thing you'll hear is to avoid the automatic and stick with a 5 speed. Some have had bad experiences with the autos while others haven't had problems.

What years are you looking at? That would matter with engine choices.

Hmm, I'd probably have to say one of the 2004-2007 New Beetles, since I'd imagine they're cheaper, yet somewhat better than the earlier models (I could be wrong, though.)

I found a 2006 Beetle with 78k on it, a rebuilt title, a sunroof, and the asking price is $6,000. It sounds kinda ehh to me, but what are your thoughts?

The 2.5 is a good engine from what I've seen. Mileage doesn't seem bad at all, I would only be cautious of the rebuilt title. Hard to say what happened that caused it to be totaled. $6k sounds a little on the high side for a car with a rebuilt title, even if it has low miles.
