Yesterday I tried to get my daughters 1999 Beetle out of the snow. I tried to rock it back and forth from reverse to first gear. In the process of getting it unstuck I got the transmission stuck in reverse. Any ideas as to how to get it unstuck?
My guess would be the linkage may be popped off.
Under the airbox you will see the top of the trans and the arm that the linkage attaches to. See if you can reach in there and move the shifter on the top of the trans. If you can get it to go into a gear by hand its gonna be the linkage. If not....well then you may have a bigger problem on your hands.
You are correct. I would still pull the air box and check the linkage. From in there you can grab the top of the shifter arm and try to cycle thru the pattern.
Have a friend rock the car a little as you try to get it out of reverse?? Sorry that's about all I got.
