The "master switch" under the steering wheel that connects the circuits for the windshield wipers; directionals; headlights; horn, etc has gone bad.

I'd like to know if anyone knows a source for this item with better pricing than a VW dealer.

I don't know the exact price a dealer gets for it but I think it's close to $200.
