Bought a 2003 'vert on Hawaii (Big Island) that has Monsoon system. The car alarm went off and the car went into disable mode. Resetting the computer got it running but left the sound system in SAFE mode. The code tag has been removed from the manual, and no notes were entered in with the code. The manual says consult your authorized VW dealer, which is 180 miles away on a different island (Oahu), and besides they are a$$holes.

Any ideas how to get it functional again?

The traditional way; was to contact your vw dealer or call vw customer service. In a earlier time; the dealers were supposed to give you the code for free but now, some charge you.

There are a number of websites; that have code "generators" but you need to remove the head unit, to access the serial number to do this. There are also; a number of youtube videos; that might help you find the code.

To remove the head unit; you need a special radio release tool, these are available online on sites like ebay/amazon, at a car stereo store or through your vw dealer.

The genuine VW version; is part #: 1C0-051-530
