So I recently had an issue with my 99 1.8T MT Beetle, it wouldn't go in reverse, and seemingly, it would only move forward in what seemed to be third gear. I was able to limp home, and diagnosed a broken actuating arm in the shift linkage. After replacing the arm, and bolting everything back together the way it was, I tried a test drive to celebrate my success, only thing is, the car didn't move. No gears seemed to be working, though the shifter feels good, my clutch feels normal, and the shifter linkage was indeed moving. Is there a really specific way that it has to be replaced, or am I looking at something more sinister? Any help would be appreciated, as I'm racking my brain for solutions.
