That is a interesting install. It opens possibilities for the custom people. Would like to see a behind the radio picture as to how much fabrication was involved.
i am making them from a mold now, the price is costly to make them hardener and making it in fiberglass is rough. to be honest behind it??? you could fit a house in there, its 100% empty i kid you not

I like that the a/c controls aren't lost. I guess we could probably fab the switch controls underneath still.

Do we have to provide the a/c vents for the DIN dash, or are they
already in?

It's cool seeing product made for our nB, even after the end of our production run.

You da man mang!

The cup holder problem is solved by using the 2006 North American floor centre console. Other countries missed out on this.
  • From 2006 the cup holders were moved to the space beside the handbrake.
  • The handbrake angle was changed so that it points slightly away from the cup holders and isn't so as blocked by the arm rest.
  • The cup holder area under the AC controls becomes a small tray area.
  • If you lift the rubber lining mat off the bottom of the tray area, there are holes to lock in 2 of the original cup holders from the first style (1998-2001?) of floor contre console. These sort: http://newbeetle.org/forums/parts-accessories/55724-wanted-beetle-cup-holders.html#post792431. So with the 2006 floor centre console you can have 4 front cup holders if you really wanted. (2 under the AC controls, 2 bigger ones next to the handbrake) with less tray space. With the double din radio console you wouldn't have much cup room under the AC controls.
Further details for the 2006 floor contre console are explained in this thread:
http://newbeetle.org/forums/styling-modifications/5204-06-console-05-a-3.html#post465503

ECS sells them, a little pricy though ($214-$297 depending on color): http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-New_Beetle--2.0/Interior/Center_Console/Conversion/. Their picture of the grey one shows the wrong rear cup holder.

So this double din console with a factory 2006 floor centre console would modernise the Beetle interior quite nicely!

A good factory looking head unit with heaps of features would be the ANS-420 shown here:
ANS-810 / ANS-510 (PROPER RNS-510 alternative).
I've never tried this one but it looks like the ones VW puts in their new cars.

Another alternative for cupholder is this one: http://newbeetle.org/forums/parts-accessories/46090-fs-custom-cup-holder-98-01-5-nb.html

basically you take the cage off, and put this on. YOU DO however have to move the heated seats and emergency button down some, im taking more pics soon. Im going to edit this set and remove center vents. Youll see what i do :)
