What's up NewBeetle community. It's been a while since I've posted an update, I've been really busy with moving to Dallas for a new job! I had a little extra cash to throw around so I added a few goodies to my NB!

I did a DIY boost gauge install and had a 3inch catless downpipe put in thanks to Autowerks of Plano (great shop btw)!

Here are some pics of the new stuff!

Ebay 3inch downpipe!

The downpipe surely added some extra WHP, as to how much exactly? I have no clue. I'm running the stock map so I'm guessing I might have picked up circa 5-10 WHP. The turbo boosts up quicker, It spikes right at 10lbs @ 2.5k RPM. Also it sits right at 20 Inches of vacuum at idle with the a/c off (which is perfectly normal). The boost gauge definitely is a must if you're wanting to know if there are any vacuum or boost leaks.

I will upload a video of the catless straight pipe tbe soon! Stay tuned:)

North Dallas right near Richardson!
10 psi at 6,000? Do you have a bad DV? Is this a K03 or K03s?

k03-053 turbo, no such thing as a "k03s"

And 10lbs is perfectly normal for a stock tune on this turbo. I think 9lbs is the official pressure for the stock map.
I never had to get to 6k for my GTI to spool to 10psi when I was on my stock tune. I don't know specific turbo names, but it is at least called a K03s colloquially very often.

3" downpipe definitely wakes the car up. I noticed that for sure when I got one on my GTI. Turbo spool was much, much better. Now, get yourself a tune and make the car even happier
Oh it will spike to 10lbs before 6k it just holds 10lbs to 6k. It will hit full boost at 2500 (*sorry for posting this wrong in the OP!) rpm:D

I want to build the motor!

btw we are mod friendly and instead of paying a "tuner shop" money to do your mods we can do most of them. or just wait until i have a mod day in my garage and do it for free. i have a garage full of tools and i used to be a tech before i became a service advisor.. check my build thread, all done myself. i know all the shops here in the metroplex if you need a tune or aftermarket parts.

Actually there is such a thing as the k03s. The compressor wheel is about 5mm larger and run a different actuator which allows for higher boost.

Stock tune on a k03 would be around 10 psi. K03s stock tune will hold around 15.

Actually stock ko3s should boost to 11 psi. 15 psi and you'd be on a stage 1 tune.
ko3s is on the turbo-s models and i think the sports maybe??

my stock turbo-s spiked at 12.

Thank you :)

I watched the gauge closley today and it spiked to 11lbs in second (drove it slowly up to 3300 rpms and floored it, thats when it spiked). Right after the needle pegged 11lbs it instantly tappered back to 10lbs and held it all the way to 70mph:D. Is this the N85 valve regulating the boost? I've also noticed that in idle with the A/C off it will hum at 21 inches of vac but when the A/C cranks up it will decrease to 15 inches. Is this normal vacuum pressure fluctuation
This should clear up the "K03s" talk. This person decided to ask a Borg Warner specialist about the so-called "k03s" turbo and its interchangeability.
