I’m not familar with your area but google showed some hits: (Euro Design and Northampton VW Service seem to be VW specific repair shops).

i don’t know if Boston is too far away but here are more shops for VW’s there:

What VW are you dealing with and what sort of repairs need to be made?

Thanks for your reply. I purchased the 98’ base model with 55k miles 7 years ago ( only drove it home 15 miles)and finally finished (part time) my body modifications. I made it into a pickup. Finally registered it and has shot numerous codes primarily with the EVAP system. I am getting tire of being a replacement artist. replace MAF, tune up, A/C and Trans serviced, no cracked hoses that I can see. Next I am going to replace the air pump. I was hoping to find some close by that is a knowledgeable hobbyist that works out of their house part time. The EVAP system seems a can of worms and a lot of time chasing which ends up big $ from a high end shop. I am 45 miles west of Boston, 30 minutes to NH or RI boarders.

Thanks for the reply. I have the codes, it’s the solutions I am having a problem with pinning them down.

A 98’ base 2.0 with 55k and EVAP system.
Can you post the codes? Thanks.

In addition to chasing codes, have you replaced the timing belt/water pump? That would be top of my list.

But definitely post the codes. We can help give more direction on things to test, etc.
Seems to be running very rich, when I replaced the plugs they were wet with fuel. I let it run for 35 minutes after checking all the hoses for cracks/leaks, replacing plugs, wires, and MAF. After 35 minutes the temp light came on, I didn't notice if the fans had ever kicked on or not but when I have it gear I could still feel random misfires and the exhaust smells rich. Only thing I changed was: the air filter because the box was cracked, had a cold air system so I put that on : also replaced fuel pump when I was working on the car. Over the course of the 7 years I would turn the battery back on/recharge it when needed and let it run for 30-40 minutes. Move and run the trans/brakes/A/C heater etc.
CODES: PO131 came on but checked the connections and cleared it, never came back: PO411: PO55: PO1128

Hi Billymade,
Thanks for the detailed sites and info, it will give me a few more places to look at with my level of competency. But it seems way above my pay grade....thus the search for a mechanic.
Best,
Danny
I don’t see a link to your build, but I assume you did a Ute conversion? If that is the case your pay grade should be more than adequate for figuring out those pesky evap codes. Ross-
Tech which Billy linked to is a great resource.

Thanks but at my age (76) I am lucky to be able to operate this phone or PC. I am not sure how to put up a link but I did manage to upload a dozen pics and make an album on this site. I thought anyone could access them. This wasn’t a kit, I started this pre-kit time. I purchased a low mileage beetle, drove it home 15 miles, and 2 days later cut the back off. Then said, crap now what? I changed the design 3-4 times over the years and started over each time until I ended up with this a few weeks ago. I will try and figure out how to do a link or find a 10 year old to do it for me.
So, the codes listed above; indicate, that you may have some bad 02 sensors, you are running lean and the secondary air injection system, is not working as it should.

What scan tool, are you using (?); more testing can be done to pinpoint problems and replacing 02 sensors isn't too hard to do. I'm assuming, if you could do a UTE type conversion; you can use a scanner tool, do guided troubleshooting steps and repair things, (if you desire; are willing to). Give us more info and we can go from there. Thanks.
Here you go.

Here you go.

Thanks, I have no clue how you did that? I tried to reply to Billy with a shot of the scan sheet I was given but I couldn't figure out how to insert a pic into the reply, when I tried it wanted a URl?? So I just uploaded the pic and put it in my album. I just removed the air pump and put power to it and it spooled up and blew air so I am assuming it is okay?
Yes, that is a good sign; here are some videos, to get you up to speed on the sai system:
