Whenever we hit a pothole or rough pavement, it felt as if the car was going to explode from the rear! I took a peek under the car and the bushings appeared to be spent. I wanted to go with a factory replacement bushing, but I knew what I was in for as bushings are a PITA to get out and installing the factory type without removing the axle or having the tool to install them was difficult. I did one side at a time lowering the axle just enough to hit it with the air chisel. It went surprisingly well. I installed energy suspension bushings and bilstein touring shocks. Also new pads and rotors, so we are in good shape for some time. :)
Anyone looking to do this themselves, just pay close attention to the brake lines and abs wires. I just removed the clips that hold the line to the axle and body and tweaked the metal line enough for me to lower the axle about 3 inches. The ABS wire is easily removed and installed.
