2003 1.8T automatic, including all the O1M transmission fun. Yes, should of got rid of her after the 2nd valve body. July 2009 she got her 4th new valve body and TCM, after the same no shifting into 4th issue. Fast forward to last week, deja vu! Check engine, no 4th, driving down the 55 going 55 at 3500 rpm. I was hoping she could get me to October, when I was planning to retire/trade her in. Trading her in with a serious trans problem isn't ideal on the wallet or new car finance plan.

So far I've opened up the dash, cleaned out the TCM, replugged. Fixed the issue for a couple days (street & highway driving). Stopped to get gas, issue came back immediately after I turned the car back on. Trans fluid was changed about 8 months ago when I felt her shifting a pinch rough and was closing in on 40K since the last fluid change.

Checked the code - P0748. Learned a lot about this infamous trans after reading up on posts in this forum, build, components, studying my numerous past work orders. Any suggestions or fixes I can rule out or lean towards based on the info above? I'm mechanic savvy and am surrounded by mechanically inclined folks (though I know Dad is taping out on this, tired of working on her & the others are American built type folks). Would "love" to do it myself if possible or if it's over my head (literally, as having to get her up on more than just jack stands) any suggestion on VW mechanic/trans expert in the Orange County, CA area? This guy @ Kansas City TDI ; really seems to know his stuff, has seemed to figured out all the typical issues with these pesky 01Ms, contact him and see what he says.

Check out all the info; he has posted about issues he has deal with, valve bodies he repairs/sells and services he offers: (the fact that he does valve body repairs and stuff in house, specific to VW sounds better then a "we do it all" type of trans place). From what I can see from his site; he really has worked through, all the "ins/outs" of the problems on these and completes the repairs on VWs that come in his shop, not just a "rebuilder" but a VW specialist/tech as well:

I'm definitely not the one to talk to about anything mechanical, but I have a 2000 GLS 2.0 auto with 100,444 miles and have no transmission problems whatsoever. Fluid has never been changed, either. Am I just lucky?
