I have a 2000 VW beetle 1.8 that is overheating after I replaced the following items
Timing belt
Water pump
Check the fans both work at low and high speed. They kick on at 235 degrees when overheating till I turn off key switch.
Radiator fan switch in radiator
Fan control unit under the battery
AC cut out switch two prong in radiator line
thermostat
4 prong coolant sensor
I tried burping the system and with the heater on high it goes in to a overheat

It's very possible you have an air pocket in the block; the Volkswagen manual recommends a vacuum based coolant filler tool. I had the same problem so that I ended up getting a uview brand vacuum filler; it works great and fixes the problem very quickly.

Google uview airlift coolant tool

So, if it is overheating now after all of the maintenance that you have done; what was it doing before that prompted you do all that maintenance in the first place?
