So I just did a whole bunch of work on my 2004 Beetle, a lot of interior body work, as well as headlights, control arms and oil pan gasket, iv'e also had a lot of problems in the past with the water pump and I have had that changed like 3-4 times, although the mechanic that I used was partly to blame for that because he put used parts in the car. I also had a problem with the car revving up in RPM's when I was at idle sitting at a light or something like that. I had a European auto specialist take a look at it and he informed me that the spark plugs/wires were somehow arcing to the cylinder and causing a misfire? So he recommended changing all the wires and plugs (even though i had them changed less than 10,000 miles ago), so I had him do that and that problem seems to be fixed. I am driving about 135 miles, 4 times a week to school and back. I invested in the car because I would like it to last me for my final year of college , that way I do not need to purchase one before I start working.

So, before I had this work done on the car, the car would occasionally throw a P0420 Catalyst System below Threshold, I did a little research on it and then would just clear it,not wanting to really deal with it. So now that all the work has been done on it I figured, that problem should be fixed as well. So since getting the car back from the mechanic after doing the spark plug work, I did the other work on the car and I have driven like 1500 miles on it. In that time I have noticed that I get significantly less fuel efficiency. I used to get at least 400 miles to a tank or approximately 30 MPG and now I only get about 300 miles to a tank or approximately 22 MPG. Then this morning after driving 70 miles to class at highways speeds, when pulling into the parking lot the CEL came on and I checked it real fast and sure enough it was the P0420 code. I also notice that occasionally when idling the car seems to drop in RPM's for a second. So I have done some research before posting and stuff and I realize that it could obviously be the Catalytic converter, or it could be some sensor problems like O2 or temp. Also reminded me that it seems to me that the car runs a little bit hot at above 210 F pretty regularly according to my Torque app. Oh it also just passed an inspection test a few weeks ago.

So I gave all this detail/symptoms in hope that someone with some more knowledge on the subject might be able to help me connect the dots and figure out the issue.
