Hi all,

I live in Spain but my Beetle was imported from the USA to the UK in 1998

I need to order a catalytic converter along with lambda sensors, however Beetles were not sold in Europe until 1999 and suppliers haven't been particularly helpful unless I supply them with an exact part numbers

The Car details are as follows
1998 VW Beetle
1984cc
3 door Petrol
Vin/Chassis No. 3VWN4B1C9WM031782

I would be extremely glad of any help

So, what do you need help with? Since you have a USA spec New Beetle; you could use the VW parts website, to look up part numbers.

Volkswagen National eStore

Are you trying to find a source; for parts or something else? Let us know; what you need help with. :)

For the 02 sensors; I would look them up on the USA Bosch website: be sure to use your engine code and get the "oe" version of the sensors, not the "universal" type:

https://www.boschautoparts.com/

To find your engine code; look here: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/pdf/tb-7192011vw.pdf

For the catalytic converter; buying a genuine VW parts, would be the most expensive you can buy. I believe Bosal; was the oem for Volkswagen for our cars, so you could buy that brand and get a high quality part without paying the high price direct from VW.

Look up your car here: http://www.qcsonline.net/bosalb2b/products/

As far as parts suppliers go; many websites will ship all over the world, at this point. Lately, I have found Amazon.com to have some of the best prices; Rock Auto is good as well, as long as you pick the high quality oem brands.

Let us know; the engine code of your car and maybe we can help you find the right parts.

I'm still a little stuck on this one - please excuse me for my lack of automobile/mechanical knowledge

It seems trying to order a part for a 1998 Beetle, imported from the USA, in Europe causes a big glitch

VW Beetles weren't available in Europe until 1999 - so this 12 month difference seems to screw the whole European data base for ordering parts!

I'm trying to order the catalytic converter section of the exhaust and O2 sensors for a 1998 VW Beetle - 2L Petrol - Engine code AEG -Vin/Chassis No. 3VWN4B1C9WM031782

But unless I come up with exact VW part numbers for the European suppliers to order genuine VW parts or alternative parts - Im making zero progress

If anybody could help with the VW part numbers - I'd be hugely grateful

Well, you would need to search for a USA spec new beetle; that is why I gave you the links to the USA based parts catalogs online. They are probably looking at euro spec parts catalogs; thus, the problem. Search using the links I gave you and you should find what you need. Another thing; to keep in mind, is pretty much all Volkswagen parts have the part numbers stamped on them, so you could look at your old parts as well. You might email some good parts places here in the USA and order from them. Give them your vin# when corresponding with them; ask for a price quote with shipping.

1stvwparts.com (USA VW dealer)

shopdap.com

Amazon.com good prices if you have the right part numbers

Rockauto.com good prices; just stay away from the cheap parts and get the high quality oem brands
