i have got a problem with boot not opening iv e eliminated the actuator and earth there is no voltage to the other wire when i press remote or operate switch my question is does the boot latch need to be in the closed position to get a voltage

i had to read your question 3 times to understand it.

i "think" you have a convertable.

if the answer to that question is yes, then "no" the latch does not need to be closed to get voltage.

The voltage to actuate the rear lid unlock comes from the central control module for the comfort system. There are 3 ways to tell the module to open the rear lid:

1. The switch on the driver's door.
2. The switch on the remote.
3. The key switch on the rear lid. This is actually an electrical switch, not a mechanical linkage.

I assume from your post that none of these are working. It is possible that the controller is programmed to only send the signal to the actuator if the lid is detected as closed. Is the "rear lid open" light on the dash illuminated when the lid is closed? If not, then the controller should think the lid is closed.
