They should alos have it in smaller bottles too. I have gotten the smaller ones from the dealership before, maybe the one you went to was out of them or something.

The power steering fluid like the transmission fluid and the coolant is a special VW spec fluid.
Depending on the number of miles on the car, consider doing a power steering fluid change. If the fluid is not still a nice clear green fluid, it is time to change the fluid. It takes about one liter of fluid to change out the fluid.

Fluids are weird.

You have to take into account the metals the fluid is going to contact, the specific heat range of your particular application; and balance alot of things all at once.

I hate dealership service and parts departments more than the average. (hate's a strong word; how 'bout don't trust?) But always stick to OEM fluids if at all possible.

For coolant, and powersteering it just seems the way to go. Oil's a much broader range and they release specific classifications 501.1 etc; that must be reached, those are alot easier to pick from.
