Problem with the drivers power window

I just bought my first bug and I think the guy I bought it off of may have fed me a line. The drivers side door power windows buttons were broke so he removed them and said he ordered them. I figured thats fine. My question is this would the power windows buttons not being there cause the doors to not lock on both sides. When I push the button on the fob the alarm arms lights flash but they dont lock or unlock. The trunk unlatches remotely and the door buttons on the bottom for the gas door and trunk also work. I just want to know if my probles all stem from that window button
