Can (LHD)European engines like the 1.6 or V5 be swapped into a US beetle? Just curious because I have never seen it done before

They will swap in...but expensive and not worth it IMO.

You need ECU from car you get engine from...plus who knows what else?

The 1.6 petrol was in Australian Beetles (RHD) from 2000 until 2011,and they are very very slow...like over 11 seconds from 0-60 mph.

The later ones came with DSG 6-speed option...but still very slow.

The V5 like in European New Beetles are interesting...but still a lot of cost and trouble for what you would get out of it.
Thanks, I was just wondering because if my engine ever does crap out I think it would be cool to have a European engine in the U.S. I got my car for free and have put about $500 dollars in it, so I think it would be worth it to have such a unique car in my area.
