So I've been looking around on the fourms and google for hours trying to find some kind of answer or hint as to what is going on with my bug. I have a 2000 bug 2.0 GLS (I think) without monsoon. I get everything wired up and when I plug in the wiring harness with my head units to the car's harness and turn the key the radio comes on for about 5 seconds and then shuts back off. It only comes back on after I unplug from the car then wait a minute and plug it back in. I've tried multiple radios to the same result. This leads me to believe that the issue lies somewhere in the wiring of the car itself. However, I have checked continuity between the areas in the fuse box and the radio wiring harness and it seems fine there. I also checked to ensure I'm getting proper voltage to the power connections. Also, I ensured that the radio fuses are the correct amp rating and that they are also in full working order. I feel like I'm either doing it wrong or missing something because everything seems like it should work, but it doesn't. I should note that this would be the first aftermarket head unit I've installed on any car. Apologies if this issue has already been documented, but I couldn't find anything at all on it. Any assistance is greatly appreciated

I'm having a similar issue, replacing the bad oem radio w/ wonky display (at the tail end of replacing the heater core...what a job!). New wiring harness fits in the brown and black connectors w/ nothing into the other multicolor connector. But even though I get voltage out into the new harness and connector, new radio doesn't turns on. I even tried another aftermarket radio and had the same results. I wonder if there is something in the multicolor connector which controls the antitheft system and needs to be jumped. I've searched on line but no mention of this. I've seen youtubes of people putting in aftermarket radios w/out any special interventions. My next step is to put the old radio back in and see if it works (do have the code...)
