Random misfire/po422

This is the continuing saga of mu P0422 issue. *LOL*

Last year, I had a persistent P0422 issue and discovered that it was due to a bad catalytic converter. I had my local mechanic replace the cat and one of the O2 sensors (over $900). The issue went away and Beauty drove just fine until a couple of months ago when she had a bad day and suffered some random misfires in cylinders 1 and 4. I replaced my coil pack and, once again, she drove like a top ... but only for a couple of weeks and then the P0422 error came back.

Now, I know that code is related to the O2 sensors and cat, but all that stuff was replaced last year. So, I know it has to still be good, but I am wondering if the random misfires might have caused some schmutz to get blown through the exhaust system and be causing a bad reading on the o2 sensor.

has anyone else had something like this happen? ANy advice at this point would be helpful as I need to get it inspected soon and I don't want to have to spend another grand to get it "roadworthy" according to NYS.

Thanks!

Have you checked the exhaust system for leaks and what brand of 02 sensors did you get (oem bosch are the best)? Do you have VCDS to check trim levels, 02 sensor activity levels or do a cat/02 sensors aging test?
Billy, the answer to all your questions is, "No."

Well, it depends on if you want to try to fix things yourself; you can throw parts at it or get some tools, like vcds to try to diagnose things intelligently. Do you want to fix things yourself or have others "try" to fix it for you?

You could try to clear the codes; by removing the pos/negative battery cables and touching them together for 30 seconds. That would be a "hard reset" of the ecm; when I replaced my 02 sensor the 02 sensor code, wouldn't go away. When I did a hard rest; it went away and stayed away. This may not fix your issue but it doesn't cost any money, it is worth a try.
