Does anyone know what this wire is for?

I have only had the car about a month and just removed the panel on the dash to give it a good clean, my wife has the exact same car but this wire isn't there on hers.

Maybe for an aftermarket remote starter or something. The wires look pretty heavy gauge and the connector is not like something VW would use. That volume under the dash would make a convenient place to locate something like that.
