This is a very small matter, but somewhat irritating none-the-less. Have a '99 GLS 5 spd. and the rear part of the shift boot (the boot has a plastic frame around the bottom of it) pops up after shifting for a while and I've been pushing down on it to put it back in place. I drive very moderately and do not shift fast or hard at all. Is this usual (for the rear part of the shift boot to raise up out of it's rectangular area), or is there something I should do to secure it? What that might be, I don't know because I can't see anything that's broken.

It is not usual. It sounds like you got the 1 in a million NB with the just a tad too small shift boot. How would you like a nice custom one? OverheadCam's mom makes them for people and they are very nice. You could have a color matched one made. Other than that maybe just some adjustment, pulling the boot down lower on the shaft. Search for some tips on changing the shifter knob.

Good luck
