Hello all,

New to the forum. I have replaced the rear shocks and mounts on my 2001 beetle. There is still an intermitant thump when hitting bumps while turning. Any ideas? The car has nearly 200K miles.

The thumping from the rear of my car, was a loose muffler. The part that holds it in place fell off, and it just bounced freely at any little bump.

This may not be your problem, but when I heard the thumping, my first thought was suspension.

If you can move the tailpipe (once it's cooled!) the clamp may be missing. Good luck!

If it IS that, forget parts. Just get some good, heavy wire, and shore it up.

Welcome to the ORG! I had a thump on the 02 and it was the exhaust hanger, missing a rubber doughnut.

After further investigation and a second set of ears and eyes it appears it is the rear axle bushings. Only makes noise when shaking side to side, not up and down.
