HI All,

The rear trunk lock just died and won't latch. I unlocked the car, all was fine, opened the trunk and when I closed it, it didn't latch, and it won't operate at all, so I'm thinking maybe a power issue, so would like to try the fuse, but I cannot find in the diagrams shared on here, what fuse is for trunk lock.

Does anyone know if there is a fuse for the trunk lock? or anyone else had this issue?

thanks,

Mike.

Here is fuse info for the A5 Beetle:

You might remove the hatch panel; test for voltage and energize the lock actuator and confirm its good?

For specific factory vw repair manuals; a 24 hour VW eRWin subscription , can provide the service manuals, you can download them to your hard drive in .pdf format (view, print, etc).

Thanks for sharing. I had looked at the fuse layout, but it says trunk latch fuse is in position 6, but I have no fuse in position 6, just like the picture of the under dash fuse box, so I’m struggling to find what the fuse is in my fuse box.

Is it the actual latch mechanism that is not working or the lock itself. If it’s the latch try spraying it with some wd 40, manually move that latch mechanism back and forth a few times after you spray it with a screwdriver.

If it’s the lock raise the lid pull the plastic off the inside hatch and confirm you get power to the lock by having a helper activate the switch while you watch your multimeter. You should get a momentary 12v or so each time the switch is activated.

If you get no power the fuse is the first check and then the wiring in the rubber accordion boot between the car body and the hatch.

If you do get power and the lock actuator just won’t work then you have a bad connection to the actuator or a dead actuator. The old MK4 style actuators you could pull apart clean, regrease and you would often be good to go. I don’t know if the newer style actuator are able to be cleaned and greased.

We don’t have any info on this issues before; can you give us some info, so the next person can benefit from your repair experiences?!

What was required to disassemble things and grt to the needed replacement part? What part was required, did you test it and do you have the VW part number? Any photos of things? Etc? Thanks
