Hello,

I'm in Canada and French is my 1st language. My 2008 New Beetle (imported from the States by the previous owner) has a leaking gas tank. A garage tried to patch it with a sealant. It worked for a few months but it started leaking again. I bought a used 2008 tank from a scrap yard in Florida for cheap and my dad brought it back here.

I just realised there are 2 engines types. The replacement tank is made of plastic (so for a BPS engine) where mine is made of metal (for a BPR engine).

Am I screwed? Will it fit? What do I have to check before I start removing the axle and the works?

Thanks guys.

I would check:
fuel pump tank opening for size,
tank hanger locations
filler neck connections and venting.

I believe they would be interchangeable, but those would be what I would look at before I dropped the axle to replace it.

Thanks VDubYah. And what's the story about fuel filter? I think I have read somewhere they are located at different places. Would that matter in the gas tank replacement? I guess if I do make the switch I should also replace my fuel filter even if I only have 50k miles.
