Routine Maintenance for New Car

Hi, everyone!

I just purchased a 2014 New Beetle Convertible 1.8L Automatic.

Because I have a disability, I cannot perform routine maintenance tasks myself.

My hope is to keep my new car in the best running condition for as many years as possible.

What do all of you recommend for a routine maintenance schedule for my new car to keep it in the best condition?

There seems to be quite a difference between what I was told when purchasing new cars in the past, versus what my dealer and the manual recommend for this car. Although it's been 19 years since I bought my last car, I recall being told to change the oil and filter at 3,000 miles, then every 5,000 miles after that. But my dealer told me to change the oil and filter on this car every 10,000 miles.

In skimming through the 1.8L forum, I saw several discussions on changing the transmission fluid (the manual says not to). These are just some of the things that have led me to believe what the dealer and manual say are not, in fact, the "best practices" to keep my car in top shape.

What so I need to do to ensure my car remains happy and healthy for as long as possible? (Engine, tires, electronic stuff, etc).

I live in RI, so we'll be getting into the cold weather here in a few months - so I suppose that's a factor as well.

Thank you!

One more question: How many miles before the engine is broken in, and how should I drive it during the break-in period?

Your 2014 isn't a "New Beetle", it's a "Beetle". And, the engine that is in it is not the same 1.8 this section is for. We do have a section for the 2012+ Beetles here, though.
We may need to create a new section to differentiate. It is a different engine, but many don't realize that.

Edit - started a new thread in the "Suggestion Box" for a new 1.8T section, as well as the 2.0 TDI.
Hey, this is something; that maybe inside your owners manual:

or here is a dealership with a online: service schedule lookup:

Volkswagen Maintenance Schedule for VW Service and Auto Repair - Ray Brandt Volkswagen

I just chatted with VW online and they are sending me the sechule in a .pdf format; I will PM you, when I get it or you can contact VW customer care as well:

This might be a good place to start:

Thank you for the correction. It's "New" to me, and it's a "New" car, so....I'm not going to dig myself out of this, am I? ;)

I apologize for posting in the wrong section! I'll see if I can find the right one....I just thought....oh, never mind.

I don't feel quite so stupid now. I guess I'm not the only one who is confused. I am new to the forum, so when you say you "started a new thread in the "Suggestion Box" for a new 1.8T section, as well as the 2.0 TDI" you mean you asked for those to be created, not that you created them yourself, correct (in other words, I'm not losing my mind because I can't find them right now, right?)
