Greetings ALL, Newbie needs help.
2 years ago, my wife bought our 05 beetle GLS,TDI 1.9 (BEW) 69,000mi I would say garage kept, since a Doctor owned it, It now has 76,ooo give or take 200. It has been real cold the past week in Indiana, single digit highs, -0 for lows. I had a new battery installed last monday. and oil changed too. It fired right up 1st 2 days then it acted like Batt was dead again. While I was trying to start it, for a brief sec, I smelled a whiff of BURNT ELECTRICAL, Then when I tried to startup GP lite came on and off like normal but nothing would happen starter wise, NO click nothing. any suggestions? All fuses in the side panel are good. HELP

The following is from the Trouble Shooting section of my VW NB '98-'05 Haynes Repair Manual.

Battery connections fully secured or corroded?
Was the wrong fuel put in the tank?
Enough oil or oil filter on tight?
Loose wire connection somewhere in the starter circuit?
The Starter Solenoid or the ignition switch may be faulty.
The Starter Pinion or flywheel teeth may be worn or broken.
Will it start in any other gear?

On the other hand, It could just be the Starter that went out, like what happened to my NB.
