So my wifes beetle has the P0411 code. I've checked everything, the pump runs good if its hooked up to power, the hoses are good, im assuming the combi valve is good. The issue seems to be electrical, the relay passes a bench test, and if I hook up a jumper wire in the relay box the pump does run, but the pump doesn't run when you start the car with the relay in place so the PCM can run it. What am I missing here? help please haha

A systematic step by step process of elimination and a bentley manual is very helpful to run down every step. I can't really help with specifics; I will say, that when I got that code it was my kombi valve and the valve seemed "ok" when tested with a vacuum tester. It turned out to be bad; even though it maintained vacuum. I put a new one in and the code went away (when the pump turned on at a cold start; the kombi valve wasn't opening all the way from what I could tell). I think in my case; it hadn't totally "failed" but was sticking.

Here are some articles that I found helpful to orient yourself with the secondary air injection system and typical issues with vw's and 1.8Ts! Hope this helps!

So I checked everything out, everything works if I jump the relay, the pump pumps air, the hoses are good, put a new relay in it, but the pump doesn't kick on when you star the car. The PCM isn't commanding it on, could this be because the P0411 code hasn't been deleted? Or could the ECT sensor be bad or something?
