I have a 2004 beetle convertible. The rear passenger window
all of the sudden would only go about half way down and stop. It would g back up without any problem. It wasn't making any noise like something was broken. I read on here somewhere to disconnect BOTH battery cables and touch them together for a few seconds....and POOF!!! it worked!!!!! window goes down gain. I can't find the thread that I read it from as I can't take the credit for the solution. I really want to thank whoever wrote that. I have no doubt they saved me a lot of money!!!

There is a firmware glitch that can effect the rear windows so that they don't roll down all the way. When it happens, you don't hear any mechanical issues (crunching, thunking, clacking or any of the other bad *ing noises), the window just stops.

I don't know what sets it off, or how to prevent it, but the battery jesus trick will reset the control module. I can't say I've ever seen a car that keeps doing it all the time to the point where I replaced the control module.
