tapping/clicking noise from rear windows area

only 3k miles on my 2014 beetle 1.8T. everything has been great with it except for the tapping noise coming from the rear of the car. Seems to be from under the rear windows, constant tapping, sometimes from left side, sometimes from right side, never both...

I searched the forum and found some people were getting clonking sounds from the rear spare tire area, but this is not the same noise. It is from inside the cabin, not the rear boot area...

anyone else hears this? please help...

btw, this noise is from when I am driving local speeds on smooth roads... I don't really hear it on the freeways....

I have experienced my hatch carpeted cover to rattle often because of the hinge rods on the sides being loose while driving down my gravel driveway. I haven't fixed the problem yet, doesn't bother me much though. So possibly lift the hatch and lightly shake the cover. If you hear the clicking sound, maybe put felt around the plastic rods and click them back in place.
