OK, this drive me crazy. When we had the timing belt replaced, we suddenly were proud owners of a very loud air (speed) induced rattle from the engine compartment. It sounds plastic or metal and I verified it is not associated with engine RPM.

I've spent several months trying to find it and using tie wraps all over the place, but no success. Any ideas of where to look are appreciated.

I should have brought it back the to dealer, but they have not been helpful and they caused the rattle.

Thoughts?

You paid for the repair; take it back to them, they should have a warranty on the repair; tell us more about what happened when you took it back. Somethings not right; they worked on it last... they need or should fix it! Dealing with "dealers" can be a real pain; don't get me started! :)

Rattle Disappeared

Well, After doing many things (none of which worked), the rattle disappeared. The old adage that "problems that go away by themselves are bound to reappear" is stuck in my mind, but I am not going to do anything!!

Did you take off the skid protection when trying to find out where the noise was coming from? Maybe the mechanic dropped something and it wasn't worth his time to dig it out, so it sat there until it finally rattled loose and fell to the road?

I can't think of anything that would be disconnected or touched during a timing belt replacement that would rattle like that and not result in very bad things happening.
