I don't think the engine cutting off is a sign of a bad timing belt. Have you checked the fuse box that sits on top of the battery? This can be a known culprit and the alternator cable that runs from it. I had it replaced on my beetle and I show the parts in the video. Hope this helps.

That can be a number of issues. If you have a CEL going off check that. If not may want to take it to a specialist or dealer get a proper diag.

You would save a lot of money by buying the parts online and doing the work yourself. front and rear brakes cost only about $100 for both front and rear, install yourself. control arms and ball joints cost only about $120 total in parts, install yourself.
