Very interesting and doable.

Details details! Where we staying? How long is the Reel? It looks like a 10 hour drive from Jax.

Need the info so I can see if Nurse Diesel can get the time off.

I'm in the process of scouting out a few local hotels and will add more details as I get them.

Suggestions:

The Hotel Strasburg in Strasburg VA
They will give us a 25% discount for a group rate.
Lowest cost room with discount: $73.80
They only have a few rooms with double or twin beds for room sharing.
This hotel is very unique and quaint.
Room rates include a free continental breakfast.
There is a paid breakfast menu available also.
They serve lunch and dinner.
Has a really neat wrap around porch to enjoy a drink from the bar on.
Strasburg is a small, quiet town.

Econo Lodge in Woodstock VA
They will offer a 10% discount for group rate.
Lowest cost room with discount: $69.99
Located on Route 11 just outside the town of Woodstock.

More to come.....

Hmmmmmm

Didn't do Skyline Drive when we did the BRP. We went south instead and besides, the Feds had closed it during the sequester.

This looks lie a fun ride. Let me see if we can swing it. Who else is going?

Virginia Reel Road Rally

Itinerary

Virginia Reel Road Rally

Itinerary

- Bugs for Breakfast rendezvous, 9 A.M. at Bert and Ernie’s Restaurant, 1296 S. Main Street, (Highway 11)Woodstock VA.

- Post-breakfast we stop at Sheetz for fueling, etc. 111 W Reservoir Rd, Woodstock, VA 22664 (side entrance also on Highway 11)

- Begin the Virginia Reel Road Rally (see route map for detail)

- Enter Skyline Drive at North Entrance and proceed through Shenandoah Valley National Park.

There are many overlooks that offer stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west and the rolling Piedmont to the east.
June’s display of azaleas is spectacular.
Deer, black bear, wild turkey, and a host of other wildlife call Shenandoah home and regularly cross Skyline Drive. Watch carefully for these animals.
The maximum speed limit is 35 mph.
The fee per car to travel on Skyline Drive is $15 (and is good for the next six days if you choose to run more of it.)
We will stop on Skyline Drive to have a packed picnic style lunch.

- After the segment of the Skyline Drive, we take twisties to Sperryville for a stop at a roadside stand (see route map) then reverse track and head back toward Woodstock. (At Edinburg, those wanting more twisies can run the road to and from Sperryville again if they choose.)

- Relaxation/down time, maybe ice cream hunt.

- Dinner (TBA)

- To finish the day we will travel to Stephen’s City to the Family Drive – In Theatre for a movie. What a way to end the day!

Ollie, I used to go to Frost Diner a lot several years ago when I lived in Warrenton. I've never had a bad meal there. It's straight up typical diner grub.. so good! They even have little jukeboxes on each table :D

The News

The word came via email yesterday as we were driving back from New Orleans.

Nurse Diesel has to teach classes everyday at work during the month of June. The hospital software roll out is going to interfere with our plans to do the Virginia Reel.

We are unfortunately going to have to back out of this one.

The plans are still full steam ahead for Talimena in October so hopefully we might see some of you out there.

I wish there was someway to change this but the job thing has to come first.

We will catch up with you all sometime and just live this one vicariously through you all.

Twisty practice for the upcoming Virginia Reel Road Rally<-Click that Link

This past Saturday I stayed at the Econo Lodge listed on the thread; it's not fancy and is a little dated but it's not bad at all. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant on the property is very good and not very expensive. Half rack of ribs, homemade mashed potatoes, sweet corn on the cob, homemade rolls, sweet tea and a free piece of Dreamsicle Cake for $12.99.
