Hi All,
I'm thinking of buying a 2007 NB but it's an automatic. I didn't buy an auto when I got the 1999 due to tranny problems. Did they get this sorted out of am I better off with a manual? There's so many auto's out there I'd hate to think they're all time bombs.
Thanks,
Joe

The 2007 comes with a different automatic 6 speeds and a much better unit the the dreaded om-1

I have seen ( yes physically saw) a 2000 tdi with an om1 auto with 235,000 miles on the original transmission.

It had its fluid changed regulerly.and was still going strong

Ah, ok so the tranny is updated then? Good to know. I really want the car but don't need an expensive repair bill either.

I think as long as you have the transmissionserviced every 40k as recommended it will be fine. My 05 never gave me a lick of trouble. I had all the maintenance done on schedule

Stay away from auto tranny

:)

Personally, I would keep looking around and find a Beetle with manual tranny unless you don't want to keep this Beetle forever.

VW seems to have bad reputation for its auto tranny, anyway.:(
