Throttle Body Adaptation - 1999 VW Beetle 2.0
I have had difficulty getting my car to start up. When I turn the key, the car will start but will run at 800RPM to 1000RPM but if you touch the accelerator it will stumble and die.
I did what RED99 said by accomplish what is known as "throttle body adaption. simply turning the ignition switch to run without starting the engine and leave it there for 30 seconds. and with the hood open I did hear a humming noise come from the throttle body during part of the 30 seconds. I tried several times but no luck. The car has a new fuel pump new fuel filter new map sensor new alternator. Anyone know what else I can do.

Well, have you tested the fuel pressure? I would try; cleaning the throttle body and THEN adapt it, the 2..0l are known for drivability issues, when the throttle is dirty. Are there any trouble codes?

There are no codes, and i have cleaned the throttle body. When it is running at 800 to 1000 tachometer works and the crank speed sensor must be working or it would not pick up RPM. I let it run for 45 mins to see if a code might come up and no codes appeared. and yes fuel pressure was checked when new fuel pump and filter was put in. Nothing so far has made a diffrence.
The Bug That wont stay running

Does anyone think it might just be the Throttle body not working is there a test for that? Just looking for help
It Is Running

After all the work as I said before had new MAS, fuel pump, fuel filter, and i Knew I had an oil leak from valve cover so I took apart and replaced it and put new plugs in put all back together tried to start and same problem so I start to unplug thing like throttle body it would still ideal when I Plugged it back in and put air tube back on I forgot to plug in the MAS and it started and ran good. Even know it was new it must be bad I will go get another one. and see if it still runs.
It is best to get a high quality oem Bosch maf: the best prices I have seen are at fcpeuro or Amazon.com. You can look up the correct maf; using the Bosch parts finder here: (be sure to use your correct engine code)

Here is some testing info; that might be helpful:
