Tried to post earlier.. didn't look like it showed up, so I apologize if this comes up twice.

Finally chased most of the Disney characters out of my kids beetle. At least enough to register and drive it. I have been ignoring the car for a few months, and now finally getting back to ironing out more issues. The car has what sounds like "lifter tick" on acceleration only. if I keep the RPM constant or let off the gas and decelerate, the tick goes away... until I step on the gas again. I would think that if it was a valve, that the tick would be there consistently regardless of throttle. Looking for things I can check on, that may point me in the right direction.

Thanks all for looking!

I had the same thing and traced it to the purge valve located behind the coolant reservoir tank. I thought the engine was starving for oil it was so loud. The valve is inexpensive and easy to change.
